Sospeso's presentation of the American premiere of Nicholas Roeg's latest film, The Sound of Claudia Schiffer, a multimedia collaboration with celebrated electronic composer Adrian Utley of Portishead, on Thursday and Friday, March 14 and 15, 2002, at the Miller Theater in New York, is a portrait of one of the iconic figures of beauty of our culture.

At only 27 years of age, Claudia Schiffer took the term supermodel to a new dimension.  An international superstar, the native German has graced the covers of more than 500 magazines including Elle, Harper's Bazaar, Vogue and Cosmopolitan.  Vanity Fair, whose editorial policy refuses any model on its cover, found it perfectly appropriate to feature a "Princess Claudia" cover and a seven page story as well as prestigious second cover.

Claudia has also been featured on the cover of Time Magazine and was the first model ever to be featured on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine's "Ten Most Beautiful Women."

She was also named one of People magazine's "25 Most Beautiful People" and received the same honor from Us magazine.  She recently signed a multi-year contract with L'Oreal which is an unprecedented agreement in terms of dimension, longevity and financial impact.

The native German began her modeling career in 1987 when she was discovered in a German discotheque.  Still a student, it was not long before she landed the coveted Guess? campaigns, which made her the most sought after model in the world.

In addition to her editorial work for magazines throughout the world, Ms. Schiffer has strutted the runways for all the top designers and has been featured in campaigns for Chanel, Versace, Valentino and Ralph Lauren, among others.  She is the first and only model to have her wax likeness in the Grevin Museum in Paris.  In 1995, Claudia hosted the World Music Awards with actor Luke Perry in Monte Carlo.  The success of her 1990 swimsuit calendar has been repeated every year, and the 1997 edition's royalties went to the Pediatric AIDS Foundation.  She is also an honorary board member for Dishes AIDS.

Claudia has also published two books:  a pictorial entitled Memories, and a black and white coffee table book photographed by designer Karl Lagerfeld.  Claudia also created a series of exercise videos with her personal trainer Kathy Kaehler.  Claudia Schiffer's Perfectly Fit is a four part series, each focusing on a different body part: abs, buns, legs and arms. These extraordinary half-hour tapes, released in January 1996, are distributed worldwide. 

Claudia recently appeared in her first feature film, Abel Ferrara's The Blackout, costarring with Matthew Modine, Beatrice Dalle and Dennis Hopper.  With a very hectic work schedule, Claudia makes her home on Monaco.

    Subject of large argument in alt.supermodels regarding disparaging

    comments from J-P Gaultier, Jil Sander, Ellen Von Unwerth.  Fans and

    critics took sides and shot up the place.  She's still Claudia, but

    the fickle fashion press seems to be tired of her.

    Even Ellen Von Unwerth has admitted Claudia is not as much a "model". 

    Claudia is a "look" If she changes it, she is not what "Claudia" is.

    Outside that, don't underestimate a girl who was at the top of her class, 

    and on the road to becoming an attorney when she was discovered.  She

    speaks several languages, and was raised well by her father, who is a very 

    successful attorney, and her mother. Money is not that new, nor important.

    Fiance David made $33 million last year.  They could both retire at will. 

    She's in business with Elle and Naomi Campbell. They have a restaurant.

    She is having a documentary filmed about her life, and will probably be 

    doing movies herself soon (it's long been reported; she gets about a 

    dozen movie offers a month).
