Alton Miller, along with friends, set out to recreate the energy they experienced in the clubs, by opening the world renowned dance club the Music Institute in Detroit. The Music Institute was one of the epicenters of the underground House movement where Alton and Chez Damier shared residency on Saturday nights creating the musical volcano that erupted worldwide in 1988.Chez Damier

Chez Damier est né à Chicago.
En 1979, à 11 ans, il commence à travailler dans un magasin de disques et très rapidement il devient DJ. A 16 ans, il est à la Warehouse, le club de Franckie Knuckles à Chicago, où la HOUSE a été inventée.
En 1987, il part pour Detroit où avec l'aide d'Alton Miller il ouvre le Music Institute, le premier club Techno/House aux USA. Un club sans licence pour l'alcool où les Depeche Mode et autres Fine Young Cannibals découvrirent la House.
Kevin Saunderson, Derrick May et Juan Atkins étaient les DJs résidents (ainsi qu'Alton Miller et lui même). C'est à cette époque qu'il se met à composer ses premiers morceaux et en 1989 il compose "Just a matter of time" qui apparait sur Techno One le premier album TECHNO à sortir sur un label de Detroit: KMS (le label de Kevin Saunderson de Inner City). Dans la foulée il compose "Set Your Body Free" pour le premier album d'Inner City.
Engagé par KMS, il devient leur Directeur Artistique, c'est dans ce cadre qu'il rencontre Marc Kinchen, avec qui il crée le groupe Power 41 et remixe Inner City, Lisa Stansfield, 1 on 1 (Juan Atkins)....
En 1989 il sort son premier disque solo "Can You Feel It" sur KMS, un classique toujours joué. En 1990 il déménage à NY où il dirige la filliale de KMS. Il rentre en 1993 à Chicago où il rencontre Ron Trent avec qui il fait plusieurs disques pour KMS sous le nom de Chez & Trent.
La même année il fonde deux labels avec Ron Trent: Prescription (principalement des titres de Ron et Chez) et Balance Recordings (autres artistes). En 1996, il se sépare de Ron et fait le bon choix en signant pour 4 albums sur Distance. --DistanceMusic.comCDs

The "Main Street Records" story is what this really is. Starting with a pretty conventional house record in Andy Caine's "I'm Your Brother", this CD traces a gradual morph in sound from that, to the ultra-deep trippy dub of Tikiman's "Na Fe Throw It", which sounds like it was mixed at the bottom of a heavy-water pool reactor. And all in between, starting with the Basic Channel remix/redux/reconstruction of "I'm Your Brother" as "Quadrant Dub II" (which was actually released on Basic Channel), this disc charts a course that leads through some of the deepest, most dusted dub this side of the ghost of King Tubby. By the time you get to the end, it's obvious that the dub wins out totally over the house that starts the disc off, and there's tracks on here you'll likely just want to put on repeat over and over again.
