ART COLOGNE 2004 28th October - 1st November New opening hours: daily from 12 noon to 8 p.m. With ART COLOGNE Germany's most important art fair is held each year. Since its founding in 1967, the Cologne International Art Fair has been flagship for all international art fairs, and in terms of its composition and atmosphere, is unique in the world. This status as well as the quality and balance of its range are maintained by an international selection committee. The number of participants, which is restricted to about 250 internationally renowned galleries, guarantees a transparent structure, but at the same time offers a comprehensive overview of the 20th century art scene - from Classical Moderns up to the latest art productions. Apart from the classics the focal points of the range are 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's art. This year again a number of young up-and-coming artists will participate in the international sponsorship programme supported by the federal government commissioner for cultural affairs and the media, the state of North Rhine-Westphalia and Koelnmesse. The young galleries, which at the invitation of a jury of experts, are able to participate at the fair thanks to sponsorship by the Stadtsparkasse Cologne's Culture Foundation (Stiftung Kultur), will also form this own section within the event.
