Fair use

Definition

The fair use doctrine is a body of law and court decisions which provides for limitations and exceptions to copyright protection in the United States. If a use is fair use, the copyright holder has no rights to control that use and no license or permission is required: you can simply go ahead and make the copies. Fair use is unique to the United States, but a similar principle, fair dealing, exists in many other countries. --http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fair_use [Oct 2004]
