Biography
Jesus Christ, also called Jesus of Nazareth (c. 6-4 BC — c. 30 AD), was a Jewish religious teacher and healer who was crucified by the Roman soldiers under the Roman Empire. He is the inspiration for Christianity, whose adherents generally consider him to be the incarnation of God. Christians also revere him as the Messiah, the Son of God, and a Savior who saved humanity from sin and death through living an unblemished life, dying as a blood sacrifice for human sin, and returning from the dead.
One reason Jesus is a controversial figure is because there are different accounts of Jesus within other religions like Islam, Judaism, Gnosticism, Mandaeanism (See later in this article). Other religions have varying perspectives on Jesus. He is regarded as a prophet by Muslims, as a false Messiah by Judaism and Mandaeanism, as a manifestation of God by the Bahá'ís, a manifestation of Maitreya by some Buddhists, as an avatar by some Hindus, as the savior and bringer of gnosis by various Gnostic sects and as a guru by many New Agers. --http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jesus, Apr 2004
