My teacher was way ahead of his time. Right now he is into the church. Anyway, yes he had slide controls before technics had put them on the 1200, he used the guitar sustain to hold vocals, something that still works today. He was pre-eqing all of his tunes before he played them. All of this was done back in the early 1980's.

The thang that hit me is this, Now think about it before you say bullshit, this is around 1980. He did not need a monitor because, as I stated earlier, he would say quiet pleas before he started to mix. Yes, he was mixing to the delayed sound from the main system. How did he do consistantly? He used a didital delay on his headphones. This allowed him to match the sound that was coming from the mains with what he heard in the headphones. Perfect mix everytime. Maybe youz guyz are not really that high tech as much as you may think you are. Smile.

Believe it or not this trick can still be used in any application even if the sound system is 100 feet away. That's my teacher the Genius. He played at a Elite Club here called the Butterfly Suite. Here is some of the other stuff that taught me. He taught me how to edit way before the sampler was invented. Only the older heads will know about the splicing block, the white tape, the razor blades, the pioneer 707 and 909 reel to reel. It would take hours to make one specific sample and put it back together. Even the late Larry levan and Tee Scott had to do this. Don't take my word for ask Timmy and F.K. about the old days. He taught me how to use a metranome to find out the beats per minute, way before the digital beat counter was invented.

Those days are gone just like the 45. Just Something from the past that I thought youz guyz should know.

Maybe you may see why I don't want to record any thing. I still have nighmares of editing.

Peace.

I tell you this, I had my first exposure to the WOS "wheels of steel" in 1975 (how many of you on this board can say that)? I started learning to rock parties back then, when I was 10 years old. First hand exposure to Kool Herc parties (how many of you know about the jams on Sedgwick Avenue in the Bronx in mix 70's at PS 80)? You wanna go old school? I been to the parties at T-Connection, Ecstasy Garage, PAradise Ballroom, Savoy Manor, Harlem World (before Mase was pissin blanks), Stardust Ballroom, Skate Key, Broadway Int'l, Audubon Ballroom (my favorite was the 1981 MC Showdown), Galaxy 23, Bronx Boys Club, Skatin Palace. My favorites were at Bronx River House with Afrika Bambaataa in the perambulator room (now that's real old school). I'mma tell you all like this. I been there and done it. You criticize me for not hitting all the new and now spots? Shit don't phase me. I been to most of these places (if not all) before they had the names they have now. I don't claim to be more old school than anyone else. But I know IAM OLD SCHOOL, NEW SCHOOL, AND FUTURE SCHOOL. Some of you don't like me saying this? That's your biz. But, it's true. I kicked it for a minute with Bambaataa at Mark Terrace in the 80's (what'chall know about Baychester Avenue on the 5 train). I am a Trumanite - class of 1984. Hung with all the Zulu Kings and Queens in Bronx River and the Valley. All this stuff you all talk about? You talk about the origins of it? I was born in the middle of it. From the South Bronx (138 and the Concourse) to the Northeast Bronx (Boston Secor) I been there and done all of it. Uptown? Been there and done it all. Brooklyn? Been there and done it all. Old school? I am old school. You all are too, most of you just don't recognize it. I live, breathe, eat, burp, fart and shit music. Cut me open and I'll bleed black vinyl. For all you haters out there (and you know who you are), you'll get there one day. I was breaking bottles of Baby Moet at T-Connection and Disco Fever in 1979. Some of you were just learning how to piss then. Yeah, I know, many of you have stories like mine. Good for you. This is about my story. Got my first tables (Technics SLBD1's) in 1979. Had a Bogen amp (remember those big tubes), Marantz Gold tuner, Gemini 5000 mixer and Cerwin Vega's back then. By no means was I large, but I had big aspirations back then. Got big aspirations now. You all hear me jawjackin', but I got shit undercover that's gonna spread like easy pussy in the future. You wanna criticize? Go on ahead. You think I am confrontational? That's my nature. I am aggressive. I am particularly aggressive to submissive people. Do the math on that one, yall. Think what you wanna think, say what you wanna say. Know what you wanna know. Those of you that think you know me, think. Those of you that say that you know me, say. Those of you that know me, know. Won't take a rocket scientist to get that one. That's aight. I anticipate posts from some of you. You are the ones who say and think.
