Quotation

A quotation is a fragment of a human expression that is being referred to by somebody else. Most often a quotation is taken from literature, but also sentences from a speech, scenes from a movie, elements of a painting, etc. may be quoted.

Proverbs and quotations have similar cultural influence. In case of extensive quoting from a work one needs to consider copyright and fair use.

A sister project of Wikimedia Foundation called Wikiquote has been created on June 27, 2003 as a free online encyclopedia of quotations in every language. The project is located at http://quote.wikipedia.org. Diversitas is another free and open source project based on user-edited quotations in all languages. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quotation

Quotation Marks and Camp

Camp sees everything in quotation marks. It's not a lamp, but a "lamp"; not a woman, but a "woman." To perceive Camp in objects and persons is to understand Being-as-Playing-a-Role. It is the farthest extension, in sensibility, of the metaphor of life as theater.-- Susan Sontag
