Rudi Laermans is Professor at the Catholic University of Louvain, Belgium, where he teaches sociological theory and sociology of culture. He is the author of several books, including De lege plek (1993) and Schimmenspel. Essays over de hedendaagse onwerkelijkheid (1997). His main fields of research are social systems theory, theories of (post)modernity, and sociology of the arts (especially the performing arts).
