Lady Macbeth
Polanski's Lady Macbeth is an ambitious woman who rules her husband with her sexual power and whose strength shatters when she witnesses the disastrous outcome of her plans. The reason she is portrayed so is explained by Polanski in an interview: "The directors always present Lady Macbeth as a nagging bitch. But people who do ghastly things in life, they are not grim, like a horror movie." --http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Macbeth_%281971_film%29 [Nov 2005]
Sexual Power [...]
[s]creen vamp Theda Bara explained, "The reason good women like me…is that there is a little bit of vampire instinct in every woman." Late twentieth-century feminists argued over whether the notion of the femme fatale was implicitly misogynist. Essayist Camille Paglia ventured: "The femme fatale …wields the sexual power that feminism cannot explain and has tried to destroy….Through stars like [Elizabeth] Taylor, we sense the world-disordering impact of legendary women like…Helen of Troy and Salome." --http://www.kewatt.com/Salome.htmlBooks
- Erotic Power: An Exploration of Dominance & Submission - Gini Graham Scott [Amazon.com] The title, Erotic Power: An exploration of Dominance and Submission, while accurate is somewhat misleading. Its primary emphasis is on the Female Dominant/male submissive area of what currently comes under the general heading of BDSM. Those who are seeking a broader overview of erotic power and its place in BDSM would be better served by reading one of the more current titles available. Originally published in 1980 and revised and updated in 1997, it still lacks in being a comprehensive overview of the subject of erotic power exchange due to its limited scope. At best I would suggest this only as a primer for those interested in learning about Female Dominance and male submission. --An Amazon.com customer
