Simulation
Related: simulated - unsimulated
Definition
A simulation is an imitation of some real device or state of affairs. Simulation attempts to represent certain features of the behavior of a physical or abstract system by the behavior of another system.Simulation is used in many contexts, including the modeling of natural systems, and human systems to gain insight into the operation of those systems; and simulation in technology and safety engineering where the goal is to test some real-world practical scenario. Simulation, using a simulator or otherwise experimenting with a fictitious situation can show the eventual real effects of some possible conditions. --http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simulation, Mar 2004
Simulated sex vs unsimulated sex
In the context of hardcore and softcore pornographic movies, unsimulated means real sex acts which are filmed as is, while simulated means, that the act of lovemaking or other erotic behaviour is suggested, not performed in reality, thus: simulated. The first leaves nothing to the imagination, the second leaves most to the imagination.
See for example this UK article from 2004:
Three other films - Ai No Corrida (1976), Romance (1999), and Intimacy (2001) also feature images of real sex. None of these, however, are as explicit as Nine Songs (2004), which features 35 minutes of unsimulated sex. --http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2004/10/24/nsongs24.xml&sSheet=/news/2004/10/24/ixhome.html [Oct 2004)]
