eTV Terminology
- Enhanced Television: supplementary content created to add depth and richness to TV programming.
- Interactive Television: the combination of television with interactive content providing a better, richer entertainment and informative viewing experience by
combining traditional TV viewing and the interactivity of the internet.
- Back Channel: the vehicle of communication from viewers to content
providers.
- VBI: the time allocated to travel from the bottom to the top of the screen. This is equivalent to the time required to draw 42 lines.
- Digital TV: digital signals produce higher quality picture and CD-quality sound, compared with the analog signal used with yesterday's television.
- HDTV: provides better quality video for television, using approximately twice the vertical and twice the horizontal resolution of a standard television.
