Cross-fertilization

Interbreeding, or inter-breeding is breeding between different, albeit closely-related species. The term is related to hybrid. Sometimes it is erroneously used in the meaning of inbreeding.

The possibility of natural interbreeding is an indicator of genetical closeness of the species.--http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interbreeding [Jun 2004]

The term crossbreed or crossbred refers to a domestic animal where the breed status of only one parent or grandparent is known. Crossbreed may also refer to a hybrid animal of two purebred parents.

A dog of unknown parentage is called a mongrel; a mongrel cat is often referred to as a moggie. --http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crossbreed [Jun 2005]

Crossover (music)

In music crossover is a term used to describe artists of a certain style or genre whose popularity crosses the considered boundaries of where the music of that style or genre is normally found. "Crossing over" is a marketing term, and is always a movement toward the mainstream.

For example, in the early years of rock and roll, many songs originally recorded by African-American musicians were rerecorded by white artists (such as Pat Boone) in a more toned-down style (and often with changed lyrics) that lacked the hard edge of the original versions. These covers were considered by some to be more palatable to white parents, and white artists were thought to be more palatable to programmers at white radio stations. Songs by the original artists which where then successful are called crossovers as they "crossed over" from a black to a white audience. --http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crossover_%28music%29 [Oct 2005]

Cross-dressing

Cross-dressing is the act of wearing the clothing of another gender for any reason. The usage of the term, the types of cross-dressing both in modern times and throughout history, an analysis of the behaviour, and historical examples are discussed in the article below.

Contrary to widespread societal views and prejudices associated with cross-dressing, many people who cross-dress do not do so for sexual or fetishist reasons. Similarly, although cross-dressing is one type of transgender behavior, not all cross-dressing is caused by transgender feelings or identity. --http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cross-dressing [Dec 2004]
