Jazz Bizniz

Jazz Bizniz! Deep Jazz, Rare Cosmic Soul, Boogie Club Vibes (Counterpoint) UK, feat. Sons and Daughters Of Lite, Lorez Alexandria, Dennis Mobley and Fresh Taste, Airto and Flora etc., compiled by Russ for Counterpoint UK. The Mobley track is a cover of superstition and the first P&P recording.

Compilations

Russ Dewbury: the man behind BGP records and the Brighton Jazz Bop. The original Acid Jazz DJ responsible for all those great jazz dance reissues.

Trend-setting DJ Russ Dewbury, visionary force behind the Jazz Bop events, BGP reissue label and the UK jazz-dance movement, continues his exploration of African grooves begun on last year's Africafunk (Harmless) comp with the bangin' Club Africa set.

Essentially a club DJ with a good set of ears, Dewbury is more concerned with beats than biographies, which should help explain why there's more background information on him than on any of the featured artists and how tracks by studio abrications like the Daktaris and Mandingo appear at the expense of funkier jams by more creative, authentically African artists.

Still, there's no denying the hard-thumping glories of the Gaytones' version of Soul Makossa, Wganda Kenya's Shakalaode and Nico Gomez's absolutely unhinged Ritual.

    1983

Meine erste Compilation - „Dance the Groove“ - stellte ich dann 1983 zusammen.
