Wet Dream Film Festival (1970) - Amsterdam

The first Wet Dream Film Festival, which took place in the autumn of 1970, was a very, very big success. All of Amsterdam wanted to go, but people came from Rome, Tokyo, New York, London, Brussels, Paris; from all over Europe they came. We sold out [Suck magazine] immediately; we could have sold out many, many times over. The Festival had an incredible warmth and everybody had a very, very good time.

We had a kind of Who's Who jury including Germaine Greer, Jay Landesman, Richard Neville, Michael Zwerin, a wonderful model from Germany, Didi Wadidi and Al Goldstein, the editor and publisher of Screw magazine in New York. --http://www.jim-haynes.com/BooksbyJim/TFC-chapters/Ch_5.htm

Second Wet Dream Film Festival (1971) - Amsterdam

Dutch Erotic Film Fest to Encore

The second annual Wet Dream Film Festival will be held here October 20-25, again organized by Jim Haynes. Last year’s fest broke even on the sale of series tickets at $10. Festival jury will consist of last year’s slate (Germaine Greer, Al Goldstein, William Holtrop, Didi Wadidi, Anna Beke and Michael Zwerin) plus new-comers Mama Cass, Roland Tropor, Heathcote Williams, William Burroughs, Carlos Clarens, Tomi Ungerer, Betty Dodson, Marie-France and Miss Angel.

It is expected that 10 films from 10 countries will be shown, plus the documentary shot at last year’s fest now slated for U.K. release under the title, “Naughty.” [Dreams of a Young Girl] This year Jens Frosen (“Quiet Days at Clichy”) will lens the event.

Lou Sher, president of Sherpix, who picked up “Adultery For Fun and Profit” last year, is putting up $1,000 for the first prize this year plus a promise of a $5,000 guarantee for any film that he thinks has U.S. theatrical potential through his distribbery.

Organizer Haynes told Variety: “What most people don’t understand about last year’s Wet Dream Festival is that we are not concerned with pornographic aspects primarily, but with the libertarian concept. It is an attack on paternalism because it asks why people can’t see any image they want.”

Tentative plans call for bringing the fest to the U.S. though New York is currently awaiting its own erotic bash scheduled for Nov. 5 - Dec. 17. -- Variety, Wednesday, September 1, 1971 via http://www.jim-haynes.com/BooksbyJim/TFC-chapters/Ch_5.htm [Jan 2005]
