Jeremy Newall's biography is enough to strike an envious streak inside even the most renowned DJ. As the most well known face behind Soho's leading record shop 'Release the Groove' you can guarantee that Jeremy had 'that' CDR long before Danny Rampling was playing the exclusive test pressing on his Radio One show.
With an established DJ career, which began back in 1986, Jeremy has been a regular feature in London's seminal club nights. Presently he is resident of 'Soul Heaven', Zoo's bi-monthly promotion at London's Ministry Of Sound. Previously he was the resident DJ for 3 years at The Loft, Paul 'Trouble' Anderson's legendary weekly night groove, where Jeremy won acceptance from one of London's most particular crowds. He is also a regular at Garage City @ Bar Rumba, BBE's Night People @ Bar Rumba, Off Centre @ 333, Indulge @ Mass, Sunday Best (Sheffield), Ministry of Sound, Soulsonic, Whistlebump @ Rhythm Factory, Soul Movement @ The Clinic and Club Milk (Ireland) spinning his regular set of uplifting and funky soulful dance music fuelled with disco funk classics along side vintage house tracks and the latest sought after white labels.
His reputation is just as recognised outside of the UK with international dates including Red Zone and ExGroove in Italy, Greece, Switzerland, Estonia, Poland, Malta, Ireland, New York, Ohio, Toronto, Montreal and Florida as well as frequent club tours of Japan. Jeremy's experiences around the world have taught him that music really is a universal language and people from completely different countries are able to communicate and appreciate quality music no matter which language the vocalist may be singing in. These journeys have made Jeremy an expert in recognising the subtle music differences throughout various parts of the world.
Drawing his influences from early rap music, which opened the door to the likes of Stevie Wonder, Earth Wind & Fire, James Brown, Pleasure, Quincy Jones, Leroy Burgess and Salsoul Records, it is clear to see why Jeremy's DJ sets are a journey of depth, character and feeling. DJ's that have inspired him include Francois K, Timmy Regisford, Louie Vega, Tony Humphries, Merlin Bobb, Ron Hardy, Larry Levan, Ricky Morrison, Norman Jay and Paul 'Trouble' Anderson, which is obviously why West End Records and Strut Records insisted Jeremy was the DJ for the official launch parties for the Paradise Garage biography written by West End Records label boss Mel Cheren, an honour by anybody's standards.
In 1999 the X:Treme Records approached Jeremy to produce a compilation for them, the result was the critically acclaimed 'Disco Blueprints', a double vinyl/CD containing original vintage disco classics sampled by many of today's biggest club hits. BBE Records was next on the phone asking Jeremy to mix the very limited and much sought after two-part promotion CD's of the Masters At Work ten-year anniversary collection.
Other production outings have included several studio collaborations with the highly respected Ron Trent including 'A Dark Room and a Feeling' on Subwoofer and Prescription Records and 'Can't Say Goodbye' on G Spot as well as numerous remix projects.
Away from his busy DJ schedule, Jeremy has always been a key figure in the dance music scene. Since 1988 he has fronted many of the capitals most respected independent Record Shops including Release the Groove (1995-2001), Catch a Groove (1991-1995), Soul II Soul (1990-1991) and Red Records (1988-1990).
His extensive musical knowledge and retail experience has earned him a second to none reputation with the world's leading A&R men continuously calling upon Jeremy for advice and hints. Many a time he has used his influence, advising many of the key DJs what is about to become the latest dance tracks, many of which would have gone unnoticed without Jeremy's expert recommendations, which very rarely faulted him.
On the radio Jeremy has been a guest on Bobby & Steve's 'Zoo Experience' on London's Kiss 100 FM, Danny Rampling's 'Love Groove Dance Party' on BBC Radio One, New York's premiere underground dance shows, 'The Candy Store' on WNYU and 'Liquid Sound Lounge' on WBAI, while he regularly hosted Paul 'Trouble' Anderson's Kiss FM mixshow. More recently you can find Jeremy Newall broadcasting live across the world via his Internet radio show 'Elements' broadcasting on cnsoholive.co.uk from the hours of 6pm-8pm GMT every Thursday evening.
When you hear Jeremy's passionate and compelling music, and see his connection with the crowd you will see why he is one of the most highly regarded disc jockeys in the United Kingdom and beyond.
