Definition
Spanking is a traditional form of corporal punishment. It consists of striking the buttocks, or another part of the body repeatedly, with either an open hand or an implement like a belt, switch or paddle. The term "spanking" generally implies corrective punishment and no intention of permanent injury. Smacking is chiefly a British term and typically used to mean spanking with an open hand. Erotic spanking is the practice of spanking another for the sexual gratification of either or both parties. Erotic spanking is generally regarded as a form of BDSM activity, although many spanking devotees do not regard it as such. Spanking can be carried out with the bare hands, a paddle, switch, cane, crop or whip; it is often combined with sexual roleplaying and/or ageplay.

Buttocks
The buttocks are the two masses of muscle (gluteus maximus, sometimes abbreviated to "glute") and fat covering the posterior aspect of the human (primate) pelvis. They allow humans (primates) to sit upright comfortably without resting weight on their feet, as (for example) cats and dogs do when they sit upright.
They belong to the intimate parts. Exposing the bare buttocks as a protest or for fun is called mooning.
In many cultures, corporal punishment is traditionally delivered on the buttocks (it is then called spanking). This is especially true for lighter punishment and domestic discipline on children (and in some cultures, on wives). Different reasons have been put forward to explain this:
- The buttocks are usually not exposed, making the punishment invisible to outsiders (and therefore making it difficult to prosecute cases of severe beating).
- The buttocks are considered shameful, and having to disrobe them for punishment is added humiliation.
- While there are many nerve endings in the area (ensuring substantial pain), there is relatively little risk of the victim sustaining long-term injury since internal organs are unlikely to be affected.
- Some critics of corporal punishment see it as merely a sexual fetish, pointing to the well-documented spanking fetish as evidence, and the buttocks as intimate parts.

Electric Spanking War Babies (1981) - Funkadelic
George Clinton's Funkadelic went through many changes over the years, and though the group's name is here, neither the personnel nor the music has much in common with earlier incarnations. That said, there is some fantastic playing here. Newer members--Blackbyrd McKnight, Ron Ford, and Ron Dunbar among them--keep the energy level high and shift the music into heavy funk. Clinton pal and influence Sly Stone takes a few turns at the mike, and Eddie Hazel proves there was no guitar player better equipped to match wits with Clinton. The foundational Romantic text was Jean-Jacques Rousseau's Confessions. Rousseau began with the assertion that here, for the first time ever, was an autobiography that gave it all away, told it all. The killer ingredient, which sold the book for over two centuries on a whisper and a nod, was Rousseau's confession of sexual masochism and his recollection of the childhood spankings that provoked it. Aside from this, Confessions is 600 or so pages of dissimulation, self-contradiction, treachery, special pleading, innuendo, raving, revenge, and lies.
