Knokke
EXPRMNTL was the largest festival dedicated to experimental cinema. It was conceived and curated by Jacques Ledoux and the Cinémathèque royale de Belgique in Knokke-le-Zoute. It was organized five times between 1949 and 1974. Attendees included Jonas Mekas and Peter Kubelka, Yoko Ono and Jean-Jacques Lebel, Jack Smith and Martin Scorsese, Holger Meins and Pierre Vermeylen. And Marguerite Duras, Marcel Broodthaers, Roman Polanski, Mauricio Kagel, Michael Snow, Hugo Claus, Pierre Clémenti, Martial Raysse, Nam-June Paik, P. Adams Sitney, Jean-Luc Godard and many other "flaming creatures".
Mourmans Gallery
One of the gallery rooms with a puzzle wall designed by Pesce at the Mourmans Gallery in Knokke, Belgium. Recycled rubber for the floors and metal cladding panels for the walls are the basic materials of the entire intervention.

Sottsass' work is regularly shown at the Mourmans Gallery [739 Zeedijk, 8300 Knokke, Belgium, 050/611991]. Mr. Ernest Mourmans had his house designed by Sottsass, mixing the Mourmans' passion for birds and design. The Mourmans gallery in Knokke was designed by Gaetano Pesce and is worth a visit for its own sake. This 4,400 s.f. gallery was designed in 1992-1993, and it explores a new way of exhibiting smaller scale pieces, concealing them within the gallery walls behind resin doors.The Seaside of Brussels [...]
Ik denk aan de Amerikaan die een paar jaar geleden bij mij in Brussel logeerde. Ik nam hem voor een dag mee naar Knokke. ‘s Avonds voor het slapen gaan zei hij: ‘I never knew Brussels had a seaside.’ Ik moet in andere modellen gaan denken. België zien als een grote stad. Knokke ligt daar bij Santa Monica. En Antwerpen hier in de Hollywood Hills en achter mij in the Valley ligt Brussel. Over de Boomse Steenweg is België helemaal Los Angeles, zeker op zo’n mooie dag als vandaag. Lichtborden, winkelparadijzen en stoplichten. Ik mis alleen een Starbucks.
